K.O.G

Kweku Sackey aka K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana) is a multidimensional creative force, combining exquisite writing skills with shamanistic live performances, fierce raps, pitch-perfect singing across a huge vocal range, and some seriously wild dance moves. He is also an accomplished percussionist, arranger, bandleader, and art director. A true poet and storyteller, he uses a blend of English, Pidgin and Ga to paint sonic pictures that reach deep into the souls of those ready to listen.

Kweku is deeply aware of his heritage and his role as an ambassador – across both time and space – navigating culturally between African and Western influences, and between the traditional and the modern. He remains rooted in a deep lineage while being fully open to new ideas and innovations.

This openness has shaped his recent collaborations with a wide range of producers and songwriters, including Léon Phal, Jembaa Groove, Zed Bias, iZem, Afriquoi, Congo Natty, Scrimshire, Dark Sky, Dizraeli, Chiminyo, Umoja and many more. His third album, released in September 2024 on the French label Heavenly Sweetness, is produced by the legendary French producer Guts (Alliance Ethnik) and his longtime friend and collaborator Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa).

AMMAR 808

Danish-based Tunisian producer Sofyann Ben Youssef has already created entirely new sonic worlds. Under the name AMMAR 808, he debuted in 2018 with Maghreb United – an album that fuses heavy TR-808 drum machine rhythms and deep bass with traditional musicians and vocalists from Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. The result is a pan-Maghreb science fiction soundtrack straight out of William Burroughs’ wildest dreams.

On his follow-up, Global Control / Invisible Invasion (2020), he turned his attention to South India. Collaborating with renowned musicians and singers, he brought new life and 21st-century energy to Carnatic and other South Indian musical traditions, while delving into the ancient tales of the Mahabharata.

With his latest album, Club Tounsi, he returns home to Tunisia and explores the colorful and pulsating folk traditions of his homeland. “It’s a specific genre of folk music,” AMMAR 808 explains. “It’s called Mezwed.” The music is named after the traditional mezwed bagpipes made from goatskin, known for their winding, hypnotic melodies. The genre often accompanies popular singers and is defined by its driving rhythms and clattering hand drums.
